Adella McFadden

September 8, 1928 — September 10, 2014

Adella Mary (Elinskas) McFadden was welcomed into the arms of the Lord, Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, the eldest daughter of Joseph & Mary Elinskas. She graduated in 1949 from Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. On Dec. 5, 1952 she married Jim McFadden and settled in North Brookfield, NY. “Honeygirl” or ”Dell” as she was often called, worked as a Madison County Public Health Nurse for many years, retiring in 1988.
Dell was a kind and gentle soul, with never a harsh word spoken, and with the best heart imaginable. Her kindness even extended to her four legged friends, she always carried a tin of treats for them in her car!
Retirement is usually a slowdown point for folks, but not Dell. Dell loved to travel and visited friends and relatives around the world. Whether visiting Ireland, Missouri, California, Arizona, or Stockwell, NY, Dell was the glue that kept everyone connected.
Cooking was a talent that she was blessed with by God. Her baked beans were legendary, and her desserts….perfection!!! Dell donated her prize winning trifles to many organizations. Even if she was on a trip, an IOU would be given and the winner would get their chosen trifle when she returned. The funds raised because of this were outstanding.
Her generosity extended to many. She enjoyed helping out at the Waterville Area Food Pantry, and was a member of the Waterville Red Hat Society, Hamilton Chapter of TOPS, and Oriska Valley Seniors, all of whom will miss her dearly.
She is mourned by her four sons & daughters in law; Jim (Terry), North Brookfield NY, Tom (Bonnie), Hubbardsville, NY, John (Becky), Peoria, AZ, and Ed (Andrea), Utica, NY. She shared a special relationship with each one….and we truly will miss her presence.
Her pride in her grandchildren was sincere and boundless. They are; Colleen, Stacey, Betsey, Eric, Lori, Michael, Michelle, Sam, Julie, and Keith. She was especially proud that some followed her path into the nursing profession.
She was blessed to have many great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Along with many, many nieces and nephews
She is survived by her siblings; Tom (Karen) Elinskas, The Villages, FL, Josephine Landry, Sacramento, CA, Mildred “Cookie” York, Flemington, MO, Bob (Amy) Elinskas, Utica NY, and Mary (Art) Howlett, Oriskany Falls, NY. She will be missed by her special friends; Vera Barnes, John “Toots” and Joan Barth, Linda and Frank Furner, and Millie Henty (her traveling buddy) along with many others.
She was predeceased by her husband; Jim, sister & brother in law, Marge & Bud Alderman ,a sister in law, Nancy Elinskas, and brothers in law, Ray Landry and Dave York.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at St E’s all of whom gave Dell truly wonderful care; particularly the staff of ICU, Special Care, PACU, and the OR, especially Dr. Paul Davidson, Dr. Sunil Motta, and Dr. Affaf Munir. A heartfelt thanks to her friend and personal physician, Dr. Porus Dhabhar.
She was a devout Catholic and a Communicant at St Joseph’s Church in Oriskany Falls, NY.
Calling hours are 3:00 – 7:00pm, Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St, Waterville, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Monday, September 15, 2014 at St Joseph’s Church, Oriskany Falls, NY. Interment will follow at the North Brookfield Cemetery.
