David Thomas Barrett, 83, of Sherburne, NY, passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford, NY.
He was born February 11, 1931 in Syracuse a son of Mary Barrett and was a graduate of Sherburne High School in 1949. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in July 1950, serving with the 1st Shoran Beacon Unit in Korea, and was honorably discharged in February 1952. On April 16, 1955, David married Agnes Teresa Blaszczyk at St. Malachy’s Church in Sherburne. He had worked for Proctor & Gamble in Norwich, and was a postal clerk at the Sherburne Post Office until his retirement. He had previously worked for the Utica Knitting Mill, T.A.C.O. and the Ontario and Western Railroad.
David was a communicant of St. Malachy’s Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Agnes; his daughter, Denise L. Foster of Sheffield, VT; two grandchildren, Teresa Foster-Jones of Norwich, NY and Jason Foster of Beaufort, NC; and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne, followed by interment with military honors in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Tuesday from 4-7pm. The Rosary will be recited at 3:45pm.
