David G. Emerson, 70, of Madison St., Waterville, NY, formerly of Auburn, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, NY.
He was born December 31, 1940 in Emerson, NY, a son of Edwin and Josephine Woodward Emerson and was a graduate of Port Byron High School. On January 18, 1985, David married Norma J. VanSlyke in Auburn. He had been a well known, hardworking and successful salesman for Crown Tire and American Tire, both in Auburn, and then Dunn Tire in Syracuse until his retirement.
David was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville. He was an avid card player who also enjoyed fishing, bowling and watching NASCAR. David was a devoted husband, father and grandfather whose family was his greatest joy. He enjoyed having his family over for picnics and swimming. He enjoyed traveling with Norma to Old Forge and North Myrtle Beach. Their recent trip to Key West Florida was most memorable.
Surviving are his wife, Norma; his children, Wendy Emerson Kincaid, Manlius; Robert and Joanne Emerson, Scottsville; Gina Emerson, Camillus; Randy Emerson, Gaffney, SC; Rick and Colleen Emerson, Waterville; Russell and Erin Emerson, Cortland; his step-children, David and Maureen VanSlyke, Baldwinsville; Richard and Trisha VanSlyke, Greenville, SC; Christine and Kevin DesMarais, Framingham, MA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Helen Emerson, Jeffrey and Ronda Emerson, all of NC; sisters-in-law, Roseanne Emerson, NC and Barbara Emerson, Port Byron; 16 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Ames, and three brothers, James, Roy “Bud”, and Richard.
A Prayer service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday September 6, 2011, at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville, with the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am from St. Bernard’s Church, Stafford Ave., Waterville, NY, followed by interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
A memorial service will also be held at 11am Saturday, September 17, 2011at the Port Byron Methodist Church.
