DAVID F. SULLIVAN
David Francis Sullivan, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home in Hamilton, NY on December 6, 2015. The son of Michael and Jane (Carson) Sullivan, he was born on January 8, 1923 in the Bronx, NY.
For 66 years, he was the beloved husband of Cathleen (Gallagher), whom he married on January 22, 1949. Loving father of six: David (Kathleen), (the late) Nancy Petrenko (Roman), Maureen Vanacore (Stephen), Denis (Lisa), Cathleen Bobrick (Richard), Janet Dowling (James); grandfather of sixteen: David (Kristine), Sheila(Gregory Nash), Sean(Julia), and Kara Sullivan, Michael Petrenko and Laura Navarro(Mauricio), Catherine and John Joe Vanacore, Lauren and Ryan Sullivan, Emily, Kevin ,and Caroline Bobrick, James, William, and Jane Dowling; great-grandfather of four: Meaghan, Maura, and Liam Sullivan, and Alexander Navarro. Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Vincent, John Joe and Cornelius.
Despite losing an eye as a child, Dave was an army veteran of World War II. He was a graduate of St. John’s University and had a long career as an accountant. He spent forty years raising his family in New Milford, New Jersey. Following retirement, Dave and Cathleen moved to Hamilton NY. He was a parishioner and usher at St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton for 20 years. He spent winters in Navarre Beach, Florida with a large and much-beloved group of fellow snowbirds. He was an avid gardener, specializing in tomatoes, and enjoyed poker playing and an occasional trip to a casino.
Blessed with good health, Dave never saw the inside of a hospital until he was 85 years old, but in recent years, he required increasing medical care. The family would like to thank the exceptional support of the healthcare community, especially Dr. Kenneth I. Werner and Dr. Robert W. Delorme, as well as the generous assistance of friends and neighbors of the community.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 11:00 AM from St. Mary’s Church, Wylie St., Hamilton, NY. Interment with Military Honors will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hamilton, NY. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad Street, Hamilton NY 13346.
