David L. Wilcox, 55, of East State St., Sherburne, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 20, 2009 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.
He was born July 8, 1954 in Norwich, a son of Robert H. and Mary Cashman Wilcox. He was a graduate of Sherburne High School and Bryant College in Rhode Island. David worked for Egg Lo Farms and for Mt. Top Golf Course in Sherburne. He was very proud to be an American and showed great patriotism in support of his brother’s service in the armed forces. David was an associate member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne and actively participated as a speaker in the recent Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall tribute in Munnsville this past June. He enjoyed helping his community where he was always there lending a hand at the Sherburne Fire Department and Band Pageant chicken barbeques.
Surviving is the love of his life, Mary Ballard of Sherburne; a brother and sister-in-law, Kendall and Barbara Wilcox of Stuart, FL; his sisters, Judy Norton of Groveland, NY and Susan Buckley of Sherburne; an aunt, Elisabeth Robinson of Iowa City, IA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday, July 24, 2009 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-9 PM.
