Donald Miller

July 15, 1953 — July 3, 2011

Donald M. Miller passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at his home in Long Beach, CA, after a brief battle with cancer.
Donald was born July 15, 1953, the son of the late Donald C. and Marie Bartlett Miller. He grew up on the family farm outside of Earlville, moving with the family to Sherburne. He graduated from Sherburne-Earlville schools, where he performed in numerous school plays as well as the band. Don went on to attend Alfred University, and then Morrisville College where he was an active member of the Friars Club, performing in and directing many of their productions. While in this area, Don became involved with the Sherburne Music Theater Society. He again directed and performed in several productions. Don moved to Oswego, and became employed at Oswego Mental Health. During this time, he formed many life-time friendships. Approximately thirty years ago, Don made the big move to California. At the time of his death, he was employed at Stars Behavioral Health Group. He again touched the hearts of many and forged friendships far beyond the workplace. Settling in a historic neighborhood in Long Beach, he took great pride in beautifying his home. Many neighbors became his California family, forming a bond of love stronger than blood. Don was a staunch supporter of many charitable functions in the Gay Community, and was known for his open heart and door at Thanksgiving and New Year’s.
While in California, he continued his love of music performing at a local piano bar where his caring ability towards people earned him the title of “mother”. His unsuppressed and infectious laugh will be remembered by all.
Don is survived by a brother, Steve Miller; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Jack Muhlfeld; his nieces, Amber Blinebry and her husband, Clint; and Baille Miller; a nephew, Matthew Miller and his wife, Vicky; great-nieces and nephews, Alyssa, Nicholas, James and Madison. Also surviving are his special uncles and aunts, Alfred and Eudora Miller, Howard and Mona Bartlett.
There will be no calling hours or services. The family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date.
Contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
