Edmond Lewicki

February 4, 1927 — December 8, 2012

Edmond Anthony Lewicki, 85, passed away on December 8, 2012 at Bethesda Nursing Home in Palm Bay, where he had resided for several years.
He was born February 4, 1927 to Antoni and Karolina Dykas Lewicki in Central Falls, Rhode Island. He was one of five children. His siblings, John, Mary, Martin and Henry all predeceased him. He was raised in Sherburne and graduated from Sherburne Central High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from August 1945 until his discharge in June 1947. He then attended Alfred University at Alfred, NY. He was a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force from May 1951 to December 1977 and traveled around the world installing and fixing radar stations in such places as Goose Bay, Canada, Tachikawa AB in Japan, and Rhein Main AB in Germany. He retired at Richards-Gebaur AFB, Missouri after a total of 28-1/2 years of federal service. He moved to Palm Bay, FL where he was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and a member of St. Malachy’s Knights of Columbus. He was a dedicated and devoted family man who chronicled the family history and took many motion pictures of family events. He later converted these 8mm films to VHS tapes and then to DVDs for all family members to enjoy. He documented his father and mother’s history in Poland and their immigration to the United States. His mother arrived in 1905 when she was only 15 and his father came in 1908 when he was 17.
Edmond was a wonderful man who never lost touch with his friends and co-workers. He was always willing to do anything and everything to aid those needing help. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. He was regarded as an inspiration to live life to the fullest by all who knew him.
He is survived by his many nieces and nephews, including James Lewicki of Morehead City, NC; Carolyn Merhib of Sherburne; John Lewicki of Cibolo, TX; Mary Beth Lewicki of Staten Island; Julie Asma of Norwich; Kathy Coye of Sherburne; Martin Lewicki of Sherburne; and Deanna Marshall of Wampsville. He has 12 great nieces and nephews, and 17 grand nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dorothy Lewicki of Sherburne
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Malachy’s Church, East State St., Sherburne, followed by interment with military honors in St. Malachy’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to St. Malachy’s Food Pantry.
