Edward McNamara

June 15, 1921 — February 22, 2013

Edward J. McNamara, 91, of Church St., Brookfield, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 22, 2013 with his loving family at his side.
He was born June 15, 1921 in Earlville, NY, a son of Edward I. and Margaret Tarbell McNamara. He attended school in West Edmeston and was a graduate of Leonardsville High School. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps Band, and then served with the U.S. Army 39th Infantry 9th Div. in the European Theater of Operations in WWII. On May 14, 1948, Edward married Geraldine Jeannette Jennings in West Winfield. She predeceased him on January 1, 2005. Edward was a machinist at Chicago Pneumatic Tool in Utica for 23 years until his retirement in 1977. He was also an antique dealer who operated Mac’s Antiques in Bridgewater. Ed spent several winters in Florida where he made many friends, some of whom came to NY to help him celebrate his 90th birthday.
Edward was a member and Past Commander of the American Legion Post #1492 in Brookfield; and a member and Past Master Commander of the Madison County American Legion. He was a member and former leader of the Leonardsville Community Band, and a member of the Town of Brookfield Historical Society.
Surviving are his children, Patricia McNamara of Silver Springs, FL; JoAnn and Jerry Tanney of Brookfield; Christine Kupiec of Clayville and her companion, Bernie; Susie and Scott Williams of Unadilla Forks; Richard and Jodi McNamara of Unadilla Forks; sister, Dorothy Jones of Unadilla Forks; brother and sister-in-law, James “Jim” and Patsy McNamara of Mayfield, NY; sister-in-law Catherine McNamara of West Winfield; in-laws, Jim and Midge Jennings of Brookfield; two God-children; Clyde Roberts of Cape Vincent and Michael McNamara of Bridgewater; twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; many nieces, including Debbie Johnson and Denise Johnson; nephews, cousins great-nieces and -nephews, great-great-nieces and -nephews. Also surviving are two close friends from his military service, Clifton Kibby of MI and Sam Burns of TX. He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Johnson and Ann Gregory; a brother, George McNamara; grandson, Jonathan Kupiec and son-in-law, Brian Kupiec.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 pm Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Church, West Main St., West Winfield
Spring interment will be in the Brookfield Rural Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville on Saturday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
