NORWICH: Eleanor M. Enders, 93, formerly of Smyrna, NY, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021 at UHS/Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, where she had been a resident of the Residential Health Care Facility for several years.
She was born on June 24, 1927 in Syracuse, a daughter of Phillip R. and Ida Barnes Barber and was a graduate of Sherburne High School in 1946. On October 7, 1973, Eleanor married Laverne C. “Buster” Enders in the Otselic Methodist Church. He predeceased her on January 6, 2019. Along with Buster, Eleanor operated a “hobby farm” for many years. She had worked at M.F. Berglas Co., Norwich, Gaines Dog Food, Sherburne, T.A.C.O., Sherburne for 18 years, and then for Colgate University, Hamilton until retiring. Eleanor was baptized in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Norwich. She had attended the First Baptist Church in Bonney, NY, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Woodstock.
Surviving are a step-son, Kevin (Kim) Enders of Phoenix, NY; four step-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Leslie Abbott; and two brothers, Phillip Donald Barber and Leslie Sumner Barber.
Graveside services will be held at in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne at a later date.
