Eugene Otto Schaffer, 78, of State Route 26, Eaton, NY, passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.
He was born March 3, 1934 in Syracuse, a son of Eugene B. and Mary Sposato Schaffer. He was a graduate of Madison High School and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. On October 13, 1951, Eugene married Florence M. Peters in Dewitt. Mr. Schaffer had worked for the City of Syracuse D.P.W. for 35 years until his retirement. Following that, he worked at Stickley in Manlius for 10 years. Eugene was an outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and taxidermy. He was also a craftsman and artist who loved woodworking and drawing.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Florence; his children, Mark Schaffer, Chittenango; Debra (Terrance) Scutt, Truxton; Dawn (Walter) Randall, Manlius; Steven (Lisa) Schaffer, Utica; William (Theresa) Schaffer, Eaton; Wendy Streiff, Kirkville; Beckey (Daniel) Strickland, Virgil) Brenda (John) Nelson, KY; Aaron (Candace) Schaffer, West Eaton; Dana (Eddie) Caples, Syracuse; sister, Georgeanna Bumpus, Baldwinsville; brother, William (Paetra) Schaffer, FL; 32 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Eugene Mark Schaffer, and a sister, Louise.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, January 4, 2013 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville.
Interment with military honors will be held in the Eaton Cemetery in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Friday from 1 to 2pm prior to the service.
