Florence R. Kogut, of Liverpool, NY, formerly of Eaton, NY, died peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at Elderwood at Liverpool. She was born in Poolville, NY on June 3, 1921, the daughter of Caroline and Walter (Edward) Ezick. Florence graduated from Sherburne Central High School in 1939 and later attended CCBI in Syracuse. She worked for many years as a secretary at Syracuse China and later at Colgate University where she was an Operations Supervisor in the data processing department until her retirement.
After retiring, she enjoyed spending winters with her husband in Zephyrhills, FL, where she reunited with family members and made many new friends.
Florence was a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was proud of her Polish heritage, traveling twice to Poland and assisting Polish refugees settling in the area. She was an enthusiastic member of Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, winning numerous tournaments. She volunteered at St. Mary’s Church, was a mentor recognized for Club Leadership in 4-H, and was active in Home Bureau.
She will be remembered for her love of family and home, and her endless energy and creativity. Her many talents included ceramics, braided rugs, flower gardening, and baking. She was a master cake-maker, and will be missed for her fresh raspberry pies and personalized cakes at many family celebrations.
Surviving are her loving sister, Irene Kohl Quig of Liverpool; sisters-in-law Joanne Ezick of Norwich and Mary Kogut of New York Mills; nephews Edward Ezick of Whitesboro, Wayne Ezick (Sonja) of Zephyrhills, FL, Douglas Ezick of Zephyrhills, FL, Randall Ezick of Clifton Park, Ronald Ezick of Lady Lake, FL, David Kremser (Sandra) of Evergreen, CO, Peter Kogut (Christine) of Pittsford, Norman Kogut of Utica, Walter Kogut of Fayetteville and Joseph Kohl (Cindy) of Liverpool; nieces Jorene Taylor of Walworth, Carol Wheeler (Lyn) of Lexington, VA, Winifred Koontz (William) of Duanesburg, Janet Wysokowski (John) of Cicero, Laurie Chartier (Paul) of Tupper Lake, Linda Hopson of Norwich and Julie Audi (Dominick) of Malta, and many cherished nephews and nieces by marriage.
She was pre-deceased by her devoted husband of 65 years, John, Jr.; her son, James; five brothers, Adolph (Stella), Fred (Doris), Ted (Gertrude), Chester (Sophie) and Edwin (Joanne); three sisters, Geneva Howard (Dewitt), Wanda Kogut (Peter) and Bernice Kremser (Stanley); and nephews, Daniel Cummings (Dottie), Gary Kremser, and John Kogut (Barbara).
Friends are invited to call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014, at St. Mary’s Church, 16 Wylie St., Hamilton, NY, followed by a memorial Mass at 11:00 am, and interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hamilton.
