Florence Sweet Morey, 91, of Komar Dr., Ballston Lake, NY, formerly of Sherburne, NY, passed away Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home, Amsterdam, NY.
She was born July 26, 1918 in North Brookfield, NY, a daughter of Roland S. and Hattie Burhydte Sweet. She received her early education in a one-room schoolhouse in Hubbardsville, NY and was a graduate of Hamilton (NY) High School. On June 18, 1938, Florence was married to Robert Glenn Morey in East Hamilton, NY and they made their home in Sherburne. Mr. Morey predeceased her on May 17, 1994. Florence had worked for the Blue Bird Restaurant in Sherburne and Norwich, NY, and Kenyon Press in Sherburne. She later worked at the Hubbardsville Manor in Hubbardsville.
Mrs. Morey was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne, where she was active in the Young Adult Fellowship. She was also a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Tiandara Chapter #631 of Sherburne.
Surviving are her children: Patricia and Robert Youmans, Ballston Lake; Richard and Barbara Morey, New Hartford, NY; Debra and Joseph Taranto, South New Berlin, NY; Julie and Frederick Hauck, Glenville, NY; her grandchildren: Scott and Gina Youmans, Brooklyn, NY; Jeffrey Youmans, Saratoga Springs, NY; Kevin Morey, Boise, MT; Roxanna Morey, Charleston, SC; Joseph, Jr. and Chan Taranto, Syracuse, NY; Marlene and Brian Williams, Syracuse, NY; Thomas Taranto, Norwich, NY; Amy Taranto, Cazenovia NY; Rebecca Laper and Ashley Laper, both of Glenville; great-grandson, Michael Youmans; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Charles Boice of Sherburne; sisters-in-law, Lillian Morey of Sherburne and Sue Sweet of LA; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Sweet, and a grandson, David Youmans.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 19, 2009 from the First United Methodist Church, Chapel St., Sherburne, NY.
Interment will be in the Graham Cemetery, Hubbardsville, NY at 1:30 PM Monday.
Friends are invited to call at the church on Monday from 10:30 to 11 AM with an O.E. S. service prior to the memorial service.
