Gertrude Halloran

Gertrude J. Halloran, 95, of Lebanon, NY, passed away Monday, May 26, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Hamilton.
She was born March 8, 1919 in Queens, NY, the daughter of the late William and Frieda Lindner Kieswetter, and was a graduate of Forest Hills High School, in Queens. On November 21, 1943, Gertrude married Gerald Halloran in San Antonio, TX. He predeceased her on November 18, 1999. Gertrude was an avid swimmer who won gold medals in the Senior Olympics for several years. She was also an active member of the Lebanon Community Club, and the Chenango Water Exercise Group at Colgate University. Gertrude and Jerry traveled throughout the West in their VW camper van. She loved nature and animals and she painted many landscapes of the places she had visited. Above all, she cherished the beauty of the Mid-York area. She was known by family and friends as a passionate believer in social justice, a quick wit, and a committed chocoholic.
Gertrude was a devoted member of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Hamilton.
Surviving are her daughter, Susan Halloran of Hamilton; son, Gerald Halloran II and his wife, Susan of Canastota; daughter, Patricia Halloran-Lincoln and husband, Charlie of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Gerald III and Susan Dempsey-Halloran of Hoboken, NJ; Kara Halloran and husband Jason Fuller of Syracuse, NY; and Bryn Halloran of Albuquerque, NM. She also leaves two great-grandchildren, William Dempsey-Halloran of Hoboken; and Sophia Shelor-Halloran of Albuquerque. Gertrude is also survived by her beloved niece, Judith Ziemer, nephew Michael Halloran, and niece, Alexis Neville.
A Memorial Service will be private at the convenience of her family with interment in the Lebanon Valley Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to Wanderers’ Rest Humane Assoc., PO Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032, an animal rescue home she supported; or to the Chenango Water Exercise Group, PO Box 284, Hamilton, NY 13346.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, NY.
