Gordon J. Deland, 81, of Madison Lane, Hamilton, NY passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at his home.
He was born February 23, 1927 in Deansboro, a son of Earl and Leona Turner Deland. He was a graduate of Morrisville-Eaton Central School and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 1, 1947, Gordon married Mary Westcott in West Eaton. Mr. Deland had worked for the Madison County Highway Department at one time. He was a machinist who worked for the Bendix Corporation, Oneida Ltd, and then Carpenter Manufacturing until his retirement. He had also served as the Eaton Town Justice.
Gordon was a member of the West Eaton Baptist Church, the American Legion in Sherrill and Sherburne, and the NYS Magistrate’s Association.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Steven Kelly of Berkshire; Leona and Franklin LeFevre of Sacramento, CA; Rosemary and Kenneth Grabowski of East Homer; a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Sari Deland of Farmers Branch, TX; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and Alan Brown of Hamilton; Ruth McManon of Albany; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Stuart and Virginia Deland of West Eaton; and Willard Deland of Oxford; 11 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 17, 2009 from the West Eaton Baptist Church.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
