Grace Sterling

March 8, 1925 — December 14, 2011

Grace Madolyn (Lloyd) Sterling, 86, of Preston Hill Rd., Hamilton, NY, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility in Hamilton.
She was born March 8, 1925, a daughter of David and Anne (Jones) Lloyd. She graduated as salutatorian of Waterville Central School class of 1943, and then trained as a nurse, graduating from Utica Memorial Hospital in 1946. She subsequently worked as a nurse into the 1960’s, and again in the 1980’s at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton. On August 31, 1946, in Waterville, NY, Grace married Elwyn F. Sterling, a World War II veteran and a Colgate professor for over 40 years. He predeceased her on February 24, 2006.
Mrs. Sterling is survived by her daughter, Sandra Sterling of Oneida; son, Jan Sterling of Haddonfield, NJ; two grandchildren, Matthew and Megan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday, December 19, 2011 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, followed by interment in the Colgate Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 10 to 11am, prior to the service.
