Hubert Jay “Bert” Bethlehem, 69, of Johnnycake Hill Rd., Hamilton, NY, passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Crouse Community Center in Morrisville.
He was born November 27, 1943 in Utica, NY, a son of Jay and Velma Marcellus Bethlehem and received his education in Hamilton schools. Bert was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served for seven years from 1962 to 1969. On March 21, 1964, Bert married Sandra Kemp in Madison. He was a mechanic and truck driver who had worked for Cossitt Concrete, Cossitt Trucking, which later became Herman Transportation, Humphrey Trucking, and then Walmart until retiring in March of this year.
Bert was a member of the Fountain Fire Co. #1 of Hamilton where he had served as assistant chief. He was also a member of the Madison American Legion Post #1556.
Surviving are his wife, Sandy; a daughter, Kimberly Young of Stephens City, VA; a son, Timothy Bethlehem of Hamilton; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and William Stradling of Georgetown; Pat and Earl Polisee of Hubbardsville; Judi and Jack Fallon of Waterville; a sister-in-law Joyce Bethlehem of Elizabethtown, NY; a grandson, Jay Young of Stephen City, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Gary Bethlehem on July 3, 2012.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday June 18, 2013 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, followed by interment in with Military Honors in the Madison Village Cemetery, Madison.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday from Noon to 2 PM prior to the service.
