Jacob H. Shafer, 90, of Hamilton, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the Community Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born June 18, 1920 in Kettle, WV, a son of Marshall and Viola Shafer and received his education in local schools. Jacob proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1945. Following the war, he lived in the Detroit, MI area working at the Hudson and General Motors plants. After moving to New York in the mid 1950’s, he settled in the South Bay area where he worked as a handyman for the Vella and Pilato families at Leo’s General Store. Jacob was an outdoorsman who enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, and fishing. He loved all animals especially his dogs and parakeets.
There are no survivors.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11am Friday, December 3, 2010 in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneida.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton.
