James E. Jones, 84, of Hamilton,NY, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2011 at the Harding Nursing Home, Waterville.
He was born August 6, 1927 in Waterville, a son of James A. and Elsie Wethje Jones and was a graduate of Waterville High School in 1946. Jim worked at Agway for several years, and from 1962 until his retirement, he owned and operated Jaspark Farms in Hamilton.
Jim was a former member for 14 years, and a past president of the Hamilton Central School Board of Education. He was also on the Board of B.O.C.E.S. for several years. An avid sportsman, he had played AAA baseball in Geneva, and enjoyed hunting, bowling and golfing. He also liked to read.
Surviving are his children, Richard and Kathy Jones, Albany, NY; Allen and Bernetta Jones, Bloomington, IL; Stephen and Laurie Jones, Mannsville, NY; Andrew and Maureen Jones, Denver, CO; K.C. and Mary Jo Jones, Bridgeport, NY; Philip and Lisa Jones, Hamilton, NY; Julie (Jones) and David Hence, Bridgeport, NY; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Elsie Pollicove, New Hartford; Beverly and Gene Buell, Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Clara Jones, Hamilton, NY; 18 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and Leslie Jones, and three sisters, Shirley Simpson, Jenny Jaquay and Stella Jones.
The family will celebrate his life and receive friends from 3 to 7pm Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Colgate Inn, Payne St., Hamilton.
