: Janice M. Durant, 74, of Lewis Rd., Waterville, NY, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2016 at her home.
She was born November 26, 1941 in Durhamville, a daughter of the late Chester and Margaret Perrigo Smith and was a graduate of Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School. On February 6, 1960, Janice married Melvin L. Durant at St. Catherine’s Church in Vernon, a loving union of 56 years. She had worked for Sears, and later at Macy’s in New Hartford, but her first love was working on the family farm. She enjoyed motorcycling, reading, and taking care of her lawn. She was a talented seamstress who could sew just about anything.
Janice was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville.
Surviving are her husband, Melvin; her children, Daryl and Patty Durant of Waterville; Yvonne and Jack Brady of Clinton; BettyJo and Ray Martin of Waterville; Lyle and Chris Durant of Midlothian, VA; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Chester and Cathy Smith of Waynesboro, VA; and Gordon Smith of Blossvale; a sister, Marlene Janovsky of Oneida Castle; her grandchildren, Amanda and Dan Schenk of Waterville; Karl and Samantha Durant of Waterville; Adam Brady of Vernon; Brian Brady of Clinton; Anna Rae Martin and Cassandra Martin, of Waterville; Scott Durant and Thomas Durant, of Midlothian, VA; a great-grandchild, Avery Schenk; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Monday, February 8, 2016 from St. Bernard’s Church, 199 Stafford Ave., Waterville, followed by interment in St. Bernard’s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home (Kloster & Northrop Memorial Chapel) 210 E. Main St., Waterville on Sunday, February 7, from 5-8pm.
