Jerry L. Winn, 79, of Route 26, Georgetown, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.
He was born August 8, 1929 in Syracuse, a son of Ernest and Marjorie M. Finch Winn. He was a graduate of Potsdam High School and the Syracuse Barber School. Jerry joined the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, serving from 1950 to 1952. On September 11, 1954, he married Anna Faye Eaton in Georgetown. Jerry was a journeyman/lineman for the IBEW #1249 in East Syracuse until his retirement in 1992. In the mid-1950’s he owned and operated Jerry’s Barber Shop in Hamilton, and following his retirement from the IBEW, he opened the Men & Boys Barber Shop in Sherburne.
A Georgetown resident for most of his life, Jerry was a member of the Georgetown Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Georgetown Fire Department. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife Faye; a son, Michael Winn of Hamilton; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Michael McKinney of Cortland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth and Edward Mason of Georgetown; Nancy and Matthew Beattie of Hoffmeister, NY; four grandchildren, Jerry and Christopher Winn, Scott and Anna McKinney; a great-grandchild, Kaylib McKinney; as well as many nieces, nephews and in-laws. A brother, Richard predeceased him on June 11, 1984.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, Cedar St., Morrisville, followed by interment with military honors in the Hillside Cemetery, Georgetown.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 PM.
