JoAnn Marie Newton, 66, of South St., Morrisville, NY, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born August 13, 1946 in Syracuse, a daughter of John C. and Vivian VanDerWater Smith and was a graduate of DeRuyter High School. On February 28, 1965 JoAnn married Lloyd J. Newton in DeRuyter. For over four decades, JoAnn and Lloyd were dairy farmers. Following that, she had worked at McLaughlin’s Department Store in Hamilton, and then for Dielectric Laboratories in Cazenovia. JoAnn’s life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with them to their sporting events, dance recitals and anything else they did. She loved playing cards as well as holiday and family get-togethers. She was a friend to all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
Surviving are her husband, Lloyd; her children, Lane and Tracy Newton of Oneida; Todd Newton of Morrisville; Chris Newton of Canastota; Breck and Kelly Newton of Morrisville; Jodie Newton-Southwick of Manlius; grandchildren, Erika, Luke and Jordan Newton; Maddison and McKenzie Newton; Austin Mennig; Breck and Cyler Newton; brothers and sisters: Roger and Visi Smith of OH; Ronald and Desi Smith of Central Square; Nancy Welch, Sandra and Adrian Warner, all of NC; and Perry Smith of SC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday March 12, 2013 from the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 2369 Lake Moraine Rd., Hamilton, NY.
Spring interment will be in the Peterboro Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
