John C. Day, Jr., 74, of Chapel St., Sherburne, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at his home.
He was born February 2, 1938 in the Town of Lebanon, a son of John C., Sr. and Ethel E. Widger Day and received his education in local schools. John was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. On July 5, 1964, he married RosaAnna Giaquinto in Sherburne. She predeceased him on January 23, 2012. John had been a foreman at T.A.C.O. in Sherburne and then worked for Agway in Sherburne and Sangerfield for 27 years until his retirement. Following that, he worked at Gromark in Sangerfield until retiring a few years ago. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting and fishing.
John was a member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne and the Sherburne Fire Department.
Surviving are his son, John Robert Day of Sherburne; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline Hopson of Norwich; Dorothy Harper of Smyrna; Ethel and Howard Hoke of Mt. Upton; Kathy and Bill Schlernitzauer of Sherburne; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton Day of Morrisville; Carl and Joyce Day of Earlville; Joseph and Geraldine Day of Smyrna; George and Sandra Day of Porter, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, Sherburne, will be private at the convenience of the family.
Interment with military honors will be in the West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
There will be no calling hours.
