John J. Levinsohn, 87, of Arbor Lane, DeWitt, NY, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at the VA Medical Center, Syracuse, NY.
He was born June 3, 1924 in Bronxville, NY, a son of Israel and Anne Princestein Levinsohn. He was a graduate of Yonkers High School and New York University, with a Masters degree in Economics. John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII. On June 6, 1948, John was married to Minnie Silbermann in New York City. John was employed at Silbermann’s Wine and Liquors in Bronx, NY until his retirement. Following that, he worked in real estate sales and then for Dreyfus Investments.
Surviving are his wife, Minnie; his children, Judy and Rob Kenyon, Austin, TX; Joan Levinsohn and Rich Rosenberry, Holliston, MA; Alan Levinsohn and Colleen Stella, Morrisville, NY; loving brother and sister-in-law, Robert Levinsohn and Louise Katz, New York City; grandchildren, Gabriel David and Stacy Kenyon, Rachel Kenyon, Devon Penney, Hannah and Eric Rogers; great-grandchildren, Zoey, Conner and Lilly; nieces, Donna Levinsohn, New York City; Dorothy Lawrence, Budapest, Hungary; and a grand-nephew, James Levinsohn, Chicago, IL.
A celebration of his life will commence at 5pm Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville, NY.
There will be no calling hours.
Interment with military honors in the Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ, will be held at 1pm Thursday.
