JOSEPHINE PUMILIA
WATERVILLE: Josephine Pumilia, 79, of Waterville, formerly of Frankfort and West Winfield, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at her home, with her family by her side. She was born February 2, 1933 in San Giuseppe Jato, Italy, one of five daughters of the late Rosario and Rosa Occhipinti and received her education in Italy. On September 1, 1955 in San Giuseppe Jato, Italy, Josephine married Lorenzo Pumilia. The Pumilia’s lived in Switzerland for twelve years before coming to the United States, and settling in Frankfort in 1970. In 1981 they relocated to West Winfield where they owned and operated the New York Pizzeria in West Winfield, Richfield Springs, Lowville and Alfred. Mr. and Mrs. Pumilia also founded Pumilia’s Pizza Shells Company, retiring in 1997. Mr. Pumilia predeceased her on January 21, 2006. She was a parishioner of St. Bernard’s Church, Waterville, where they resided since 2003.
Mrs. Pumilia was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who enjoyed her family, cooking, and her home in Florida. She is survived by two daughters, Rosa Pumilia and her husband Francesco, of Waterville and Angela Pumilia-Schiff and her husband David of New City, five grandchildren, John and Kristen Pumilia and their two sons Tommy and Jonny; Lorenzo Pumilia and Francesco Pumilia all of Waterville; David and Joseph Schiff of New City and several nieces and nephews and a special sister-in-law, Nicolina Pumilia whom she shared a truly close relationship with. Also surviving are many friends in her Italian community here in America.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. from the Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 East Main Street, Waterville and 11:00 a.m. from St. Bernard’s Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Calling hours are Saturday morning from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home.
