Laura Schindler

Laura D. Schindler of Knoxboro, NY, passed away on April 6, 2016 at her home with her family by her side. She was 89 years old. Born to Beatrice Isles and Matthew Crossway in 1926, she grew up on her parents’ farm in Hamilton NY with her brother, Roy.
In 1944, she married Stewart Schindler and moved to his family’s 120 acre dairy farm on Spencer Road, which they later bought from Stewart’s father. Together, Stewart and Laura raised five children. They worked the farm until 1965 when they rented out the land. Stewart worked as a contractor until he retired in 1987, Laura worked as a wallpaper hanger for a number of years. Later, the couple traveled throughout the country and Canada in their camper, often with a caravan of friends. They took a Caribbean cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary.
Laura enjoyed bowling, crocheting, snowmobiling, playing cards, ceramics, and visiting friends and family. She was friendly to everyone and always greeted people with a warm smile and conversation. Laura was the center of her family, keeping everyone updated on news from the relatives as her children settled across the country. In 2009, the couple sold the farm and continued to live in the home.
Laura was predeceased by her husband Stewart in 2013, her brother Roy Crossway in 1966, and her son-in-law Earle Ford in 2011. She is survived by her children, Sharon Waterman of Pt. Richmond, CA, Linda Ford of Waterville, NY, Diane Ritchie of Colorado Springs, CO, Julie (Tom) Quinn of Syracuse, NY; Kevin (Carolyn) Schindler of Camillus, NY; fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville NY.
