Marguerite M. “Peg” Knapp, 93, of Waterville, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Harding Nursing Home, Waterville, NY.
She was born July 31, 1919 in Oneida, a daughter of William and Maude Murphy Mair and graduated from Vernon High School at the age of 16. On October 19, 1946, Peg married Stanley G. Knapp at the Vernon Baptist Church. He predeceased her on October 17, 2002. A Waterville resident since 1953, Peg worked for Dr. Elsworth for many years.
Peg was a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waterville. Active in her community, she was a former Girl Scout leader and an EMT with WAVAC. She was a member of the Crystal Chapter O.E.S.; served on the Board of the Home for Homeless Ladies; and had been the Treasurer of the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill School Board.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Robert Sonia of Waterville; grandchildren, James and Melissa Sonia of Waterville; Kristine and Marcus Recchio of Oriskany Falls; and Lisa Sonia of Waterville; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Sonia, Ariel Recchio, Nikko Recchio, Carter Sonia, Dylan Sonia and Jasmine Schermerhorn; nephew, George Mair of Clark Mills; and niece, Marilyn Gregory of FL. She was predeceased by a son, Clifford J. Knapp; and two brothers, William and Philip Mair.
Graveside services will be held at 11am Friday, May 3, 2013 in the Skinner Cemetery, Vernon Center.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Waterville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kloster-Northrop & Bentz Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville.
