Martin D. Jones, 88, of Waterville, formerly of Blue Mountain Lake, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Masonic Care Community, Utica. He was born July 17, 1927 in Blue Mountain Lake, a son of the late Thomas D. and Mary Cassidy Jones and received his education in Indian Lake Schools. On December 18, 1954 in Hartford, CT he was united in marriage to the former Pauline Blanchard. She predeceased him on May 27, 1983. He served as a Merchant Marine before entering the US Army and serving his country in WW II. He was a member of St. Bernard’s Church, Waterville. Martin was a gifted and talented man. He was great at sports, he was a self-taught and accomplished pianist, and he learned to speak seven different languages and loved geology. He was employed as a custodian for the Waterville Central School System until his retirement in 1990.
Surviving are his children, Douglas Jones of Indian Lake; Linda and Alan Plourde of Centerville, VA; Gail and Philip Collins of Vernon Center; Tina and Mark Mohr of Chittenango; Martha and Dennis Goering of Syracuse; two sisters Mary (Harry) Ellard of FL; Delores Strobeck of Herkimer, 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Orpha Curry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00 am from St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Route 28, Blue Mountain Lake, NY. Interment will follow in Blue Mountain Lake Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
The family would like to thank the staff of Inlet at the Masonic Care Commmunity, for their kindness, care and compassion shown not only to Martin, but also to them.
