Mary Emma Fraser Sterle, 90, of Bradley Brook Rd., Eaton, NY, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009 at the Crouse Community Center, following a brief illness.
She was born December 21, 1918 in West Eaton, a daughter of Harry and Jennie Soule Fraser. She lived in Troy, NY with her uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Allen, and their daughter, Mary Ruth Allen Loomis. She returned to Eaton at the age of 18, and on November 11, 1938 Mary married Edward Sterle in Georgetown. Together, they owned and operated their dairy farm on Route 26 in Eaton. Mary graduated from the Utica School of Beauty Culture, opening her beauty shop in the Village of Eaton in 1958. She later moved the shop to her home and operated it until she retired on May 25, 1995. Edward predeceased her on June 25, 1988.
Surviving are her children, James and Carolyn Sterle of Morrisville; Jackson and Henrietta Sterle, Jean and Derek Coe, all of Eaton; a sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Reggie Leonti of Auburn; a brother, Allen Fraser of East Hartford, CT; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Morton, Barbara Newton, Annette Morton, Duane Sterle, Shari Grant and Jack Sterle, Jr.; 2 step-grandchildren, Althea Brooks and Joseph Eiholzer; great-grandchildren, Emma Grant, Sydney Morton, Morgan Yates, Jeffrey Morton, Madison Newton, Samantha Morton, McKenzie Newton and Jennifer Morton; step great-grandchildren, Nathan and Kolton Brooks; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Hazel and Ray Erlen, Helen and Reese Bishop, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Fraser.
Funeral services will be held at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 11AM.
Interment will be in the Eaton Village Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 PM.
