Michael A. “Grog” Tarbell, 55, of Sherburne, NY, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.
He was born October 6, 1958 in Norwich, a son of Claude W. and Marmie Whitney Tarbell. Mike graduated from Sherburne-Earlville High School and Mohawk Valley Community College. He started his 20-year career at Unison (G.E. Aerospace) in Norwich as a security guard, and then became a machinist. He loved riding his motorcycle and enjoyed camping and canoeing in the Adirondacks. Mike was also a dedicated dog rescuer.
He was a retired member of the Sherburne Fire Department and the Sherburne Emergency Squad where he had served as an EMT-CCT and a Past Captain. He was also a former member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #876 in Sherburne.
Surviving are his mother, Marmie Tarbell of Sherburne; sisters and brothers, Gayle and Ken Ripley of Port Crane; Joanne Tarbell of Sherburne; Gerry and Stacey Tarbell of Volney; Terry Tarbell of Sherburne; Dorothy and Ken Reid of Sherburne; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and –nephews. He is also survived by his rescue dog and beloved companion, Tucker. Mike was predeceased by his father, Claude “Bunny” Tarbell, and Jim Maiurano.
A celebration of his life will be held at 7pm Sunday, July 13, 2014 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4 to 7pm.
Interment will be private at the convenience of his family.
