Murray O. Kilts, 74, of Old County Rd., Perterboro, NY, passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at his home.
He was born November 29, 1937 in Canastota, a son of L. Laurel and M. Evelyn Eaton Kilts and was a 1955 graduate of Canastota High School. Murray married Emma Louise Roberts who predeceased him. He married Barbara Ogden Hoyt on July 26, 1997 in Peterboro and she predeceased him on March 19, 2011. Murray worked for G.E. in Syracuse for many years. He was a member of the NY Army National Guard in Syracuse from 1955 until retiring in 1997 as a 1st Sergeant. Following that, he worked at Parts Plus in Bouckville for 15 years.
Murray was a member and serving as Noble Grand of the Willow Glen Rebekah Lodge#158 of Eaton. He was a member and serving as President of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, and was also Captain of the Fire Police for many years. He enjoyed bowling in the leagues at the Hi-Skor Lanes in Earlville.
Surviving are his children, Michael Kilts of Godeffroy, NY; Timothy Kilts, Brian Kilts, Christopher and Wendy Kilts, all of Clockville;sisters and brothers-in-law Lynne and James Hupka of Lebanon, TN; Carol and Tony Zangardi of Chatham, VA; and brotherBruce Kilts of Carlsbad, CA; a step-son, Carl Hoyt of Bridgeport; 13 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Friday, October 19, 2012 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville. There will be a Rebekah service just prior to the funeral.
Interment with military honors will be held at 1pm Saturday, October 20, in the Peterboro Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm., with the Smithfield Fire Department service at 7pm.
