Norma J. (Peckham) Boise of Granville Hill Rd., Sherburne, NY, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, in the company of her family.
She was born Norma Janet Peckham, daughter of Edward John and Lila Albrecht Peckham in the Town of Bainbridge, NY on January 31, 1925. Her mother died when she was a young girl, and she was raised by her father and her loving step-mother, Ethel, on a large dairy farm in East Guilford, NY. She graduated from Bainbridge schools, and on August 10, 1946, Norma married Cecil A. Boise of Sherburne. Norma was employed for many years by the Sherburne-Earlville Central School system, and retired from Colgate University in 1984.
Norma was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Sherburne, having served on the Vestry and as an officer of the Episcopal Church Women. She was also a member of the Home Bureau and had been a Girl Scout leader for several years. An avid craftswoman, she created beautiful quilts for all of her family and for charity. She loved cooking, especially baking, and was well known for her pies and donuts. As the baker in the Sherburne Elementary School cafeteria, she delighted hundreds of children daily with her desserts. She loved fishing, gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. She passed along her curiosity and her love of animals, nature and science to her children. Her family was always her central focus, and they will cherish her memory.
Surviving are her loving husband, Cecil; and their children, Patricia Myers (Thomas) of Poughkeepsie, NY; Cheryl Boise of Maryland, NY; Kenneth Boise (Denise) of Cincinnati, OH; and Joanne Boise of Richmond, VA; her grandchildren, Tamara and Brian Myers; Dana and Jordyn Boise; two great-grandchildren, Liliana and Austin Myers; and her sister, Alene Smith of Norwich, NY. She was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and Bruce Peckham; and two sisters, Doris Peckham and Helen Eckert.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM Friday, July 2, 2010 at the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Classic St., Sherburne.
Interment will be in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
