Norman J. Lopesz, 82, lifelong Waterville, NY resident, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.
He was born September 23, 1929 in the Town of Westmoreland, a son of Nicolaus Michael and Carolina Laudowska Lopesz and was a graduate of Waterville Central School. He joined the U.S. Army, serving in the 67th Med Tank Division, 2nd Armored Div. during the Korean Conflict, and then served for five years in the active reserves. On June 26, 1954, Norman married Elizabeth Lesa Larkin in the South Hamilton Baptist Church. They lived with and cared for Norman’s father on their farm until his death in 1974. Elizabeth passed away on May 4, 2008. Norman was a meat cutter and store manager for the A&P and the Grand Union in Waterville; parts manager for International Harvester in Madison, and then operated the Cherry Valley Oil Corp. gas station for 12 years. He retired in 1984 from the Town of Sangerfield where he had been an Equipment Operator. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waterville.
Norman is survived by his children, Catherine Lesa Lopesz Bridge and Roger Norman Lopesz, both of Waterville; Douglas Lynn and Lisa Lopesz of Westmoreland; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all of his loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10am Saturday, March 24, 2012 from the First United Methodist Church, Waterville, followed by interment with military honors in the Sangerfield Cemetery.
