Norman R. “Bud” Smith, 89 of Williams Corners Rd., Morrisville, NY, passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at his son’s home in Sherrill, under the care of Hospice.
He was born May 12, 1925 in Hamilton, a son of Charles and Emma Gorton Smith and received his education in local schools. On March 10, 1946, he joined the U.S. Army, and proudly served in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged on September 14, 1947. He was united in marriage to Jennie W. Pisiak on November 20, 1948 in St. Joseph’s Church, Oriskany Falls. She predeceased him on December 30, 2013. Bud was a heavy equipment operator for the New York State Department of Transportation from November 5, 1947 until he retired on January 31, 1991. Following that, he worked for the Madison County Highway Department during the summer months as a mower operator until 1997. Bud was a hardworking man who was truly devoted to his wife and family. He enjoyed socializing with his fellow retirees at local area restaurants, especially McDonald’s and VJ’s in Hamilton, and Apple Betty’s in Vernon.
Bud was a member of the Kelley Phillips American Legion Post #569 of Oriskany Falls.
Surviving are his children, Dale and Tara Smith of Morrisville; Mark and Sandra Smith of Sherrill; and Barry Smith of Chittenango; his beloved grandchildren, Marla and Tim Trew of Munnsville; Luke Smith of New Castle, PA; Adam and Raquel Smith of Oneida; Ashley and Josh Czyzewski of Amsterdam; Derek Smith of Rochester; Courtney Smith of Sherrill; Barry Lee Smith, Jr. of Buffalo; and Austin Smith of Los Angeles, CA; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Darrin, Megan and Cody; sisters-in-law, Pauline Uvanni of Rome and Mary Pisiak of Madison; brother-in-law and his wife, Mayford and Peggy Pisiak of Clinton; many nieces, nephews and cousins He was predeceased by his siblings, Edna Chapman of Bouckville; Gaynel Jones of Oneida, his twin sister, Norma McIntyre of Utica; and Milford Smith of Munnsville;
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Friday, May 30, 2014 from St. Joan of Arc Church, 6 Brookside Dr., Morrisville, NY.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm.
