1936 Richard 2021

Richard D. Cheshire

August 12, 1936 — September 18, 2021

Richard Duncan Cheshire, 85, passed away September 18, 2021 in Hamilton, New York. Born in Mineola, New York, a son of Catherine and Leslie Cheshire, he is survived by his beloved wife Roberta (Bobbie) Cheshire, children Jenny (Bill), Jon (Beth) and Cammy (Scott), grandfather to Joshua (Susie), Kaleigh (Morgan), Ryan, Jonny, Zachary, Jacob, Jack and Camden and great-grandfather to Ann, JJ, Max, and Emelia.
Dick, was a man who loved his family, and his wife Bobbie more than anything else in life. Always patient, a great leader, an author, an educator, he never complained; constantly reading, taking notes everywhere he went; he had an insatiable desire to learn and to make an impact. He was an outgoing and warm man who always greeted everyone he met with a kind smile and a firm handshake. He was a man of unwavering faith, a Yankees fanatic and guitar playing lover of music who naturally brought out the best in people. Richard Cheshire, a Colgate Alumni Class of ‘58, devoted his life’s work to higher education, fundraising and non-profit development, earning his PhD at NYU along the way. He brought his family back to Hamilton in ‘72 taking a position at his Alma Mater as the Vice President for Public Affairs then recruited away to become President at the University of Tampa. Although his career path took him from the northeast to the deep south, then across the country to southern California, he always found his way back to the town his family calls home, Hamilton. Bobbie and Dick settled on Lake Moraine and he was blessed to have his wife and children by his side in his home that he loved when he took his last breath. Dick’s legacy of love, laughter and leadership lives on in his family.
