Richard DeLacy

March 27, 1933 — August 1, 2016

EARLVILLE: Richard S. DeLacy, 83, of Williams Rd., passed away Monday August 1, 2016 at his home.
He was born March 27, 1933 in Washington, DC, a son of William C. and Marguerite Scheibli DeLacy. He attended Gonzaga Prep School and Georgetown University, in Washington, DC and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On November 14, 1959, he married Irene K. Wright in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Bethesda, MD.
Having indulged his wife and daughter’s love of horses, he too became an enthusiast and spent his retirement enjoying his small farm in upstate New York with occasional family holidays around the US and to Europe. He was an avid traveler and a life-long student of peoples and cultures. He was never happier than when learning about and discussing world events with friends and family while eating homemade pie and ice-cream.
Richard was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton.
Surviving are his wife, Irene; a daughter, Kathleen DeLacy of Earlville; a sister and brother-in-law, Elayne and John Coggins of Kensington, MD; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William P. DeLacy of Kamiah, ID; Michael C. and Lynn DeLacy of Aquia Harbor, VA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Gwendolyn DeLacy.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 16 Wylie St., Hamilton, NY at 11am on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.
Interment is private at the convenience of his family.
There are no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, NY.
