Robert B. Knudsen, 89, formerly of Charles St., Hamilton, NY, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville, NY.
He was born October 31, 1921 in Clovis, New Mexico, a son of Will and Sarah Knudsen. Robert graduated from Tiban New Mexico High School and joined the U.S. Army where he served as a gunnery navigator during Workd War II. After the war, he graduated from Oklahoma A&M and moved to Central New York where he became a math teacher at Rome Free Academy and met his future wife, Doris Ulrich. They were married on April 9, 1954 and moved to Willey Rd. in Poolville. Doris predeceased him on January 2, 2000. Robert continued to teach math at Sherburne-Earlville Central School and completed his master’s degree from Syracuse University.
Robert was an avid gardener, woodworker and biker. He was an active volunteer with the Office for the Aging and never missed an opportunity to be kind and generous to his family, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his sister, Ruth Lemley of San Diego CA; nieces, Deborah Ables, Beverly Hyland and Billie Knudsen Welton; and nephews, Donald Baines, Glenn Baines, Rodney Lemley and Roger Knudsen. He was predeceased by a sister, Audrey Baines.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, NY on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 4-6pm.
There will be no services.
