Rodger J. Peer, 76, of Johnnycake Hill Rd., Hamilton, NY, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Crouse Community Center, Morrisville, NY.
He was born January 10, 1935 in Rochester, NY, a son of Walter J. and Anna M. Deisinger Peer. He received his early education in Rochester schools, and received his B.A. Degree from Bowling Green University, Bowling Green, OH where he excelled in athletics. Rodger was employed at Kodak and ITEK in Rochester and following his relocation to Morrisville, he was a substitute teacher at the Morrisville-Eaton Central School. He was also a substitute school bus driver who enjoyed transporting the various district sports teams. On November 21, 1987, Rodger married Margaret Sutphen Kelly in Hamilton.
Rodger was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church in Morrisville, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Rodger loved fishing, golfing and traveling, and enjoyed playing cards and board games. He was very well read and had a wonderful ability to recall detail. He was a great conversationalist and a good listener.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Drita Peer of Delmont, PA; step-children, Carolyn and Donald Tine of Beaver Falls; Craig Kelly of Cazenovia; Cindy and Jock Hengst of Hamilton; Colleen and Michael Shoales of Andover; Gwendolyn and Timothy Cowie of Davidson, NC; Sean Kelly of Whitefish, MT and Kyle Kelly of Washington, PA; a sister, Marilyn Scott of Camillus; two grandchildren, Violet and Benjamin; 12 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Peer and a brother, Walter Peer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 am Thursday, February 10, 2011 at St. Joan of Arc Church, Brookside Drive, Morrisville.
Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St., Morrisville on Thursday from 9 to 11am.
