Stella June (Curns) Hubbell, died peacefully on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Kindred Care/Country Estates of Agawam, MA. She was 98-1/4 years to the day.
She was born on October 18, 1915 in Sinnemahoning, PA, the eldest daughter of James R. and Pearl Cole Curns. On July 5, 1936, Stella married Bernard T. “Barney” Hubbell in Canton, PA, a loving union of 52 years until he predeceased her on February 14, 1988. She had also worked for several area companies, including the Gladding Corp. in Otselic, NY; T.A.C.O. and the Gaines Dog Food Co., both of Sherburne, NY; and retired from the Norwich Pharmaceutical Co., Norwich, NY in 1983.
Stella was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose family was most important to her throughout her life. She truly enjoyed crocheting, and her family called her the “crochet machine” because she would make a bed size afghan in a week. She was also an avid reader, made the best soft cookies and the creamiest fudge. She loved a good card or dice game, and finding any colored or cut glass, a hobby she enjoyed with her niece, Gail Seymour. She would travel anywhere when the opportunity arose. She was a founding and charter member of the Smyrna Firemen’s Auxiliary
