William H. Sweet

William H. “Bill” Sweet, 79, of Knapp Rd., Sherburne, NY went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Valley View Nursing Home in Norwich, NY due to several health issues.
He was born August 5, 1941 in Pittsfield, NY, a son of William H., Sr. and Dorothy Miller Sweet and received his education in New Berlin schools. On August 24, 1984, Bill married Elizabeth Maynard Buckingham in Smyrna, NY, a loving union of over 36 years. Bill worked for NBT in Norwich for 19 years, and later for Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton for a short time. He enjoyed vacationing, gardening, mowing his lawn, walking and hunting. He loved his dogs, especially “Peppie”. He was a fan of Syracuse basketball.
Bill was a member of the Smyrna Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; his children, Debora Sweet of Otego; Karen (Joe) Batres of Marana, AZ; step-daughter Sheryn Buckingham of NJ; step-daughter-in-law, Barbi Buckingham and daughter, Bryanna of Minoa, NY; sisters, Marion MacGillavray of Holmesville; Linda (Denny) Hoxie and Shirley (Ronald) Holl, of New Berlin; brother, Charles “Chuck” (Linda) Sweet of Garrattsville; brother-in-law, Warren “Pip” (Joanne) Salmon of New Berlin; grandchildren, Amanda Sweet; Sarah Baden; Aaron Buckingham; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Tyler Baden; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Carol Salmon and Marjorie Pesarcheck; a step-son, Bryan Buckingham.
Graveside services will be held in the North Norwich Cemetery in the spring at the convenience of his family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne, NY.
