William F. “Bill” Spooner, 86, of Cooper St., Oriskany Falls, NY, passed away Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Siegenthaler Center in New Hartford, NY
He was born August 21, 1927 in Utica, NY, a son of Stanley and Bernice Donovan Spooner. He proudly served his country post World War II in the U.S. Army. On April 19, 1952, William married Janet Fuller at St. Joseph’s Church in Oriskany Falls. A lifelong resident of the Oriskany Falls area, he was a self-employed carpenter by trade. He had previously worked for Howesfarell in Oneida and then ABC Sign Co., in Utica. Bill was a master craftsman whose greatest pleasure came from woodworking in his shop.
Bill was a member of the Madison Baptist Church; the Kelley Phillips American Legion Post #569 in Oriskany Falls.
Surviving are his wife, Janet; daughters, Carol and Jack Doherty of New Smyrna Beach, FL; and Judy Homer of Oriskany Falls; sons, William “Bill” and Joanna Spooner of Middletown, RI; Paul and Cairenn Spooner of Ludlow, MA; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald.
Funeral services will be held from the Kloster & Northrop Chapel at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 210 E. Main St., Waterville at 5pm Saturday, January 18, 2014.
Spring interment with military honors will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Oriskany Falls.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 3-5pm Saturday prior to the service.
