Wilma I. Hitchcock, 84, of Hamilton, NY, passed away Wednesday May 1, 2013 at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville where she had been a resident since 2006.
Wilma was born May 19, 1928 in DePeyster, NY, a daughter of Hubert and Laura Schofell St. John. She was raised in DeKalb Junction/Hermon area and was a graduate of Hermon Central School in 1945. From 1946 to 1948, she had worked at the Rome State School. On June 12, 1948, Wilma married Willard Hitchcock. He predeceased her on September 15 1990. A Hamilton resident since her marriage, Wilma was a homemaker whose life revolved around her family.
She was a member of the Park United Methodist Church in Hamilton where she taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Hamilton Grange, and later, the Peterboro Grange; the Home Bureau in Hamilton, and was a 4-H leader.
Surviving are her children, Larry and Nellie Hitchcock, and Jean Lehman, all of Hamilton; James and Debra Hitchcock of Fruitland Park, FL; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lloyd St. John of Salamanca; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Geneva Schmidtka of Clifton Springs; Eva Cobb of Massena; Janice and Ralph Little of Watertown; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial service will be held at 3pm Saturday, May 4, 2013 from the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton.
Interment in the Woodlawn Cemetery will be private at the convenience of her family.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2 to 3pm prior to the service.
