Cathleen V. Sullivan

Cathleen V. Sullivan nee Gallagher, 99, of Albany and Hamilton, NY passed away on April 21, 2023 after a short illness.  

She was born in New York City on November 24, 1923, and raised in the Bronx. She married David F. Sullivan on January 22, 1949, who predeceased her in 2015. They had six children, David (Kathleen), Maureen (Stephen), Denis (Lisa), Cathleen (Richard), and Janet (James). She was preceded in death by her daughter Nancy.

She graduated from Cathedral High School at age 16 and worked as a secretary at Reynolds Metals until her first child was born. When her last child entered school, she worked as an executive assistant at Burns and Roe. 

Cathleen and David lived in the Bronx until moving to New Milford, NJ in 1954, where they raised their six children and lived until their retirement in 1991. They made a new home in Hamilton, NY where Cathleen was very involved with St. Mary’s Church, Rosary Society, Worn Again Thrift Shop, and many other community activities for 20 happy years. It was in Hamilton where the Thanksgiving Sullivan Family gatherings became a tradition that no child or grandchild would ever think of missing. This tradition continues today with 40+ gathering from far and wide every year.

Upon David’s death Cathleen moved to Avila Retirement Community in Albany, NY where she spent the last four years making many new friends and playing Rummikub.

In addition to her children, Cathleen is survived by her grandchildren Davey(Kristy), Michael, Sheila (Greg), Laura (Mao), Sean (Julia), Kara, John-Joseph (Kacy), James (Kenzie), Catherine (John),William, Emily(Harry), Kevin, Janie, Lauren, Caroline (Mac), and Ryan, and great grandchildren Meaghan, Maura, Liam, Alexander, Peter, Alexandra, Aloysius, Gabriel, Liv, Samuel, and Rose.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad, Hamilton, NY. The rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm, prior to calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 16 Wylie Street, Hamilton, NY at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.
