Charles W. "Scrapper" Jeffrey

Sherburne

Charles W. (CJ) Jeffrey, “Scrapper”, 92, of Sherburne, passed away at Community Memorial Hospital in Hamilton on January 24, 2023.

Scrapper was born to Wallace and Frances Newman Jeffrey on March 30, 1930 in Sherburne and attended Sherburne High School. He joined the U.S. Army 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division in 1948 and fought in the Korean Conflict receiving the Bronze Star for heroic and meritorious service. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Scrapper worked for the C&U Telephone Co. and then the Village of Sherburne for a time. He returned to the phone industry working for GTE which became Continental Phone Co. and he retired after 30 years of service.

He was an honorary member of the Sherburne Fire Department; a member of the American Legion Post #876 in Sherburne; and a member of the Sentinels Drill Team. Scrapper enjoyed bowling and golfing where he made many friends throughout the years. He even made a hole-in-one at the Mountain Top Golf Course on June 4, 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sandra Stewart Reynolds Jeffrey; his children, William (Trina) Jeffrey of Washington; Bruce (Mary) Jeffrey of Florida; a grandchild, Ashley Jeffrey of Florida; four step-children, Michael (Lori) Reynolds, Michele (Peter) Richards, Mark Reynolds and Melinda Reynolds; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ruth Jeffrey; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marilyn Cook Jeffrey; three brothers and two sisters-in-law Donald (Sophie), John and Robert (Nora Jean); and a sister, Helen.

In keeping with his wishes, there are no services or calling hours.

Interment with military honors will be held in the West Hill Cemetery at a later date in the summer with a celebration of his life to follow.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Sherburne Fire Department or the American Legion Post #876, Sherburne.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
