Chere L. Montanya, 82, of Smyrna, NY passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at the Valley View Nursing Home in Norwich, NY.
She was born November 25, 1938 in Paxinos, PA, a daughter of Melvin and Anna Rhoads Reitz and was a graduate of Shamokin (PA) High School. On June 3, 1968, Chere married William G. Montanya in Wyckoff, NJ and they shared a loving relationship of 43 years until he passed away on December 16, 2011. Chere had worked for Weis Markets, owned and operated Baker’s Restaurant in Norwich, and later worked for Chesebrough Ponds until retiring. She enjoyed doing puzzles and word searches.
Surviving are her children, David Tressler of Norwich; Thomas and Jane Tressler of Boston, NY; Cheer and Michael Cole of Smyrna; a brother, Kenneth (Joanne) Reitz of Paxinos, PA; her grandchildren, Thomas (Manisha) Tressler, Jr. of Rexford, NY; Danielle Simpson (fiancé, Jim Sharma) of Mineola, TX; Zachary Tressler of Binghamton; Amanda Gearhart of Blasdell, NY; Marissa (Gabe) Bermingham of Derby, NY; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Chloe Gearhart, Elliot Fischer and Luca Bermingham; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a step-son, William “Billy” Montanya, and a sister, Elma Reitz.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Interment will be private at the convenience of her family.
