Chester "Chet" Smith

Chester “Chet” Smith of Foote Hill Rd., passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Valley View Manor Nursing Home, Norwich.  He was born August 16, 1920, in Breakabeen, NY a son of the late Herbert and Mildred Wetsel Smith. Chet graduated from Berne High School and SUNY Cobleskill.  He served his county in WW II from 1942- 1946 with the U.S. Navy Seabee’s. On August 25, 1946, he married Doris Isaacson in Hudson, NY.  The couple moved to Sherburne in 1966 and made it their home. Doris passed away on April 24, 2012. Chet worked for Agway Co., in Fort Plain, Guilderland Center, Malone, Norwood, Oneonta, Vestal before retiring as manager of Sherburne. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne.

Surviving are his two sons and daughters in law; Stuart C. and Elizabeth Smith of VT, Rodney L, Kathy Smith of Binghamton: seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Hilda Emmrick.

A Memorial service will be held at 12PM on Wednesday, July 20,2022, from the First United Methodist Church, 11 Chapel St., Sherburne, NY 13460. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment with Military Honors will follow in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne.
