Clarice A. Aldridge

March 19, 1933 — December 23, 2021

Clarice Aldridge, 88, of West State Street, Sherburne, NY crossed over on December 23, 2021.
Born in Randallsville, N.Y., she grew up in the Hamilton area attending Randallsville grade school where she was the only pupil in grades two through five. She then attended Hamilton Central School, graduating in the Class of 1951.
Clarice attended Faxton School of Nursing (Class of 1954) and spent 15 years working at Community Memorial Hospital, followed by many years as an office nurse for doctors Brustowicz & Jacobi at the Medical Arts Building in Norwich, N.Y.
Following her nursing career, Clarice taught herself the art of making porcelain dolls and won the Doll Artisan Guild’s International Trophy in competition for two consecutive years. She was a senior judge at this same competition for many years. In 1983, she began modelling and individually producing her own original doll designs know as Claridge Dolls, which have been added to doll collections as far away as South Africa and Australia. Two of the Claridge Dolls designs were sold to Seeley-Olivia of Oneonta, N.Y., including a toddler doll called Cream Puff and a Father Christmas character doll called Nicholas. Molds from these designs were made available to doll artists around the world. Clarice also wrote extensively for “Doll Artisan” magazine, and international dollmaking magazine, and her book “Dollmaking ABC” was published in 1988.
In 1982 Clarice opened Claridge Bed & Breakfast and enjoyed welcoming Colgate parents and other travelers for over 12 years.
Throughout her life, Clarice was an excellent artist of many mediums – watercolor, chalk, oil paint, fabric & thread, and clay to name a few. Whether crafting to please herself, making clothing for others in need, painting a woodland scene or designing and hand-stitching a quilt for a loved one, each stitch or brushstroke reflected her warmth and unique talents. Clarice loved and made music a part of her life, playing viola in high school and later piano, and was fond of listening to many genres including jazz, Broadway show tunes and especially country music. She loved nature and wildlife, particularly birds – she was never without a birdfeeder within view.
Clarice is survived by her son David (Nancy) Aldridge of Estero, FL: grandchildren Marc (Shannon) Aldridge of Estero, FL and great-grandchildren Julien & Elvy; Alexandra (Tyler) Pappas of Mount Albert, Canada and great-grandchildren Michael & Lincoln; Jack (Lauren) Aldridge of Fort Myers, FL; David (Kara) Marshall of Houston, TX and great-grandchildren Aubree, Kaylee and Rylee; daughter Anne (Tom) Bronchetti of Slingerlands, NY; grandchildren Sophia Bronchetti of Albany, NY and Natalie Bronchetti of Slingerlands NY; sister Jennie Schlist of Sherburne NY She is predeceased by her husband Theodore, who passed away November 7, 2019; her brother Everett “Ned” Fleming in 2011, and her brother Raymond Fleming in 1960.
