Francis B. Hilsinger, 96, of Sherburne,NY, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.
He was born October 1, 1923 in Sherburne, a son of Ray and Rosa Giaquinto Hilsinger. He was a lifelong resident of Sherburne except for the 3 years he was in the Army during World War II where he served most of that time with the 781st Military Police Battalion in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of Operations. He was a meat cutter by trade. In later years, he built and owned the Classic Restaurant and Bar for 15 years until retiring in 1985.
Francis was a life member of the American Legion Post #876 of Sherburne. He was an active sportsman who loved hunting, fishing and his coon dogs.
On June 15, 1946, he married Lucille Shawler who predeceased him in 2007.
Surviving are two children, Fred of Sherburne, Janice and Craig Powell of Cape Vincent, NY; his grandchildren, Melissa Powell of Florida; Jeremy and Kylie Powell of Watertown; Taylor and Cassandra Hilsinger of Chittenango; four great-grandchildren, Jenna and Anna Powell, Layla and Lacey Hilsinger.
Funeral Services with military honors will be held at 1pm Sunday, October 20, 2019 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne.
Interment is private.
A luncheon will be provided by the American Legion in Sherburne following the service, and all are more than welcome to attend.
