Frederick Clark Whitney, 82, of Lebanon Hill Road, Earlville, NY, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Crouse Hospital, Syracuse, NY.
He was born January 8, 1939 in Syracuse. In 1941, he was adopted by Thomas N. and Marion Jeffs Whitney, living in Syracuse before moving to Randallsville in 1950. He was a 1957 graduate of Hamilton Central School. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving three years of active duty and being honorably discharged in 1960. On November 12, 1960, at the Federated Church in Eaton, NY, he married Jean Smith of Lebanon, NY. Fred was a former employee of T.A.C.O. in Sherburne and Citizens Communications in Norwich, NY. He retired from Citizens in 2001 with 30 years of service. He was a 50-year member of the Sherburne Masonic Lodge #444 F&AM.
Fred enjoyed living in the quiet of the country in his log home “Fort Whitney”. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In his retirement years he and his wife enjoyed taking bus tours to many places in the U.S. and Canada.
Surviving are his wife, Jean; two sons, Russell and Lori Whitney of Lebanon Hill Road, and Bruce Whitney of Lebanon Hill Road; one grandson, Jacob and Brittany Whitney and a great-granddaughter, Ava Jane Whitney of North Norwich. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Nancy Suthard of Ormond Beach, FL.
Friends are invited and may call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 31 Cedar St, Morrisville, NY on Monday, June 21, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00pm and on Tuesday, June 22, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm at the funeral home.
Interment in the Eaton Village Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family.
