Gail Ames Rhyde, 85, of Hamilton, NY, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 in Oneida, NY.
She was born on April 6, 1935 in Syracuse NY a daughter of Kenneth A. and Florence Miller Ames. She grew up in Morrisville and was a graduate of Morrisville-Eaton High School. On August 1, 1953, she married Donald James Rhyde in Morrisville. He predeceased her on December 11, 1975. Gail worked for Vantine Studios for over 45 years in Hamilton before retiring in February 2019. She enjoyed cooking and baking as well as working in her yard. She especially loved sending cards to her family and friends for every occasion. She was an avid fan of the Syracuse University basketball team. Gail had been the longest surviving member of the Community Wellness Center in Hamilton.
Surviving are her children, Donald, Jr., David (Debbie), Paul (Peggy), Marie (Gary) Jacobsen; grandchildren, Nicholas (Stephanie), Matthew (Michelle) Jacobsen, Erin (Steven) Austin, Hannah (Ron) Pleban, Kathleen, Mark (Melanee) Jacobsen, and Lucas; great-grandchildren, Grant, Tyler, Clara, Kevin, Liam, Jacob, Ryker and another one on the way; sisters, Jean Wolstenholme, Karen (Bruce) Thompson; brothers, Donald Ames, Phil (Lesya) Ames, Murry (Naydene) Ames; brother-in-law, Ed Rhyde; sister-in-law, Marsha Ames; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, stepmother, Lorraine Ames; a sister, Beverly Davis, brother, Richard Ames; brothers-in-law, Jim Wolstenholme, and Douglas (Helen) Rhyde.
Private graveside services will be held in the Morrisville Cemetery at the convenience of her family.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Oneida Healthcare Extended Care Facility, 323 Genesee St., Oneida, NY 13421; or to the Community Wellness Center, 173 Utica St., Hamilton NY 13346.
