Gregory E. Snyder, 68, of Munnsville, NY passed away Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Katherine Luther Residential Care Facility in New Hartford.
He was born on August 2,1953 in Hamilton, NY, a son of Audrey (Fiedeldey) Snyder and Howard W. Snyder. He graduated from Hamilton Central School in 1972 and the from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a BS in Environmental Science. Greg worked for Dain Lumber, Community Memorial Hospital and in Hospital Administration as the Director of Facilities at the NYS Department of Corrections in Mohawk from 1989 until his retirement in 2001.
Greg enjoyed hunting, spending time with his family and friends as well as his many pets. He had a quick wit and always had a smile on his face and a helping hand for anybody in need. You could tell when he was joking or pulling your leg by the mischievous twinkle in his eye. He was very intelligent and he had a very sharp mind up until his last days. He knew all his caregivers by their voice, even those who only took care of him occasionally.
Surviving are his beloved mother, Audrey Snyder of Madison; sisters, Stacey Snyder of Port Charlotte, FL; Sue and Dean Polisse of Munnsville; Holly and David Staelens of Madison; a brother, Howard W. Snyder, Jr. of Madison; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father in 2009. He is also survived by his closest friends, Jim Ryan as well as Dick and Jan Kirby who always had time (and baked goods) for him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, May 27, 2022 from St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton, with interment in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, Oriskany Falls, NY.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Lutheran Homes to benefit employee activities, 110 Utica Rd., Clinton NY 13323; Wanderers Rest Humane Assoc., PO Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032; or to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton.
